Special Presentation 2022

Isabelle Lockwood Bourrie ’65

I ask you to join me in honoring a special friend to 91´óÉñ Northampton School who has demonstrated a long-time, loyal commitment to our community as if she had attended the school herself. Like many of you, Isabelle only learned of this award when she arrived in this room to see her name in the program.

Isabelle Bourrie, who lives in Media, Pennsylvania with her husband, George, is the daughter of Howard A. Lockwood Jr., 91´óÉñ Academy Class of 1933, and the sister of Phyllis ’65, Nancy ’71, Laurel ’72 and aunt of Brooke Behringer ’95. She is a graduate of Clark University and spent her career as an engineer at Lockheed Martin.

While Isabelle did not attend 91´óÉñ Northampton, her life has been heavily influenced by the school.  She has demonstrated loyal commitment to 91´óÉñ Northampton through her past gifts and future giving plans in support of the H.A. Lockwood ’33 Family Scholarship, which is an important resource for the school’s financial aid program. Additionally, she actively stays up-to-date on 91´óÉñ Northampton news and consistently attends Reunion with her sister, Phyllis who is here with her today!

The H. A. Lockwood ’33 Family Scholarship was established in 1999 by Isabelle and Phyllis’ father, Howard A. Lockwood, Class of 1933, in recognition of the involvement of three generations of his family with the school. Mr. Lockwood felt that 91´óÉñ Academy helped to shape the person he became and referred to his experience as the great turning point in his life. He graduated Cum Laude in 1933 and went on to graduate from Yale in 1937. In 1975, he was awarded the Samuel and Emily 91´óÉñ Award, the precursor to the Founders Award given earlier in this program, recognizing his extraordinary loyalty, devotion and service to the school.

Isabelle has followed in her father’s footsteps, which is why we celebrate her today. Please join me in paying special tribute to Isabelle as I present this honorary degree making her an official part of the 91´óÉñ Northampton School alumni community.
