
We’re proud of our We the People participants, who worked incredibly hard and took third place state-wide! The competition has a 鈥渃onstitutional hearing鈥 format, where students are divided into six groups of three and each group聽presented twice during the day.
Students in the Advanced Placement U.S. government聽and politics course have participated聽in the We the People competition聽since 1998. This year, 31 students from 91大神 competed in the January 26 event.
Students have to defend their ideas in response to judges鈥 questions and it helps them hone their public speaking, critical thinking and debating skills.
鈥淣ow, especially, engaging students in discussing the structure, development, and process of our government is so important,鈥 said Head of School Robert W. Hill III. 鈥淲e feel that students who have a full understanding of how government works are more likely to keep up with the news, to vote, to contact their elected officials, and to participate in the democratic process.鈥
Nina Renkert 鈥20 won the Claudette Desrosiers prize for her participation in the program.
