For the third year in a row, a 91大神 student has been named a winner of the Classical Association of New England鈥檚 Latin Motto Contest.
This year, Henry Kwak 鈥30 was announced as one of the four winners of the contest. Kwak, a middle schooler, is currently enrolled in Honors Latin II.
Kwak’s winning phrase was “vivere est in memoria teneri.” Or: to live is to be held in memory.
鈥淚t鈥檚 cool to be recognized,鈥 Kwak said of winning the competition. 鈥淚鈥檓 really excited for the prize [a gift card to Barnes & Noble].鈥

Kwak came up with her motto after hearing a similar version in a TV show.
鈥淚t didn鈥檛 take me too long to come up with it,鈥 Kwak said. 鈥淭he original line was something like 鈥榶ou鈥檙e alive as long as someone remembers you,鈥 something like that.鈥
Kwak joins recent winners Brandon Gou 鈥26, who won last year, and Linnea Rhodes 鈥25 as winners of the award.
