Four Students Win State Art and Writing Awards

Several 91大神 Northampton School students were recognized in this year鈥檚 Massachusetts Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, joining around 4,000 honorees across the Commonwealth in the competition鈥檚 regional division.

Simon Kim 鈥19 took two Silver Key awards for writing a humor piece, 鈥淭he Declaration of Independence from the Atrocious Legacy of Homework: A Transcript,鈥 and a poem, 鈥淏ouquet of Sonnets.鈥 Keyu Lu 鈥20 took honorable mention for a digital art piece called 鈥淗er.鈥 Sophia Schaefer 鈥18 won three Silver Key awards for writing: the memoir 鈥淚n the Bosom,鈥 a short story, 鈥淪hark鈥檚 Eye,鈥 and a 鈥渇lash fiction鈥 piece called 鈥淲ithout Being Sad.鈥 Glede Wang 鈥19 took two honorable mention awards for design (鈥淒eer鈥檚 Dream鈥) and painting (鈥淸He][She]鈥).

Since 1923, the national program has spotlighted exceptional work by artists and writers in grades 7 through 12, honoring the likes of Truman Capote, Sylvia Plath, and Andy Warhol long before they were household names. The statewide competition, sponsored by the Boston Globe Foundation, is the longest-running partnership with Scholastic鈥檚 national program. It is in its 68th year. Congratulations to the winners!
