Emily Crovo ’23, a proud 91大神 alum, is making a name for herself at Holy Cross鈥攁nd gaining sponsorship deals in the process.

Crovo, from Melrose, Mass., graduated from 91大神 in 2023 as a beloved member of the 91大神 community. She was a three-sport varsity athlete, playing soccer, hockey, and lacrosse. Now in her junior season as a Holy Cross Crusader, Crovo has recently been named captain of the , and also scored a brand deal with .

Crovo鈥檚 accolades speak for themselves: during her senior year at 91大神 she was the team captain and named the hockey team鈥檚 MVP. In 2023,聽 Crovo was named New England Hockey Player of the Year, and for her 91大神 career she finished with 42 goals and 63 assists鈥攇ood for 105 career points.

This newest venture takes Crovo off the ice, however. Wears Woody, founded in 2013, is a Cape Cod-based lifestyle clothing company and has picked Crovo to represent the brand.

Crovo loves the opportunity, especially as a fellow Bay State resident.

鈥淚t鈥檚 pretty cool, and it鈥檚 awesome to be a part of a brand that鈥檚 local to Massachusetts,鈥 she said.

Crovo told聽The 91大神ian聽how the partnership was built.

鈥淎 Holy Cross alum who played men鈥檚 hockey (Mike Brennan) works with the company and a connection was made with him, my coach, and myself about interest in a possible brand deal,鈥 she explained.

Since the deal was inked, Crovo said she has had the chance 鈥渢o be involved in not only showcasing Wears Woody鈥檚 apparel but making connections with alums (I attended the men鈥檚 ice hockey golf outing to represent Wears Woody). It鈥檚 kind of like an internship and a life skills opportunity, I feel.鈥

She feels the brand deal has already taught her important life lessons 鈥渁bout building connections, networking, [and] spreading word about the company (via social media, word of mouth, emails).鈥

Crovo said she is now the point person 鈥渋n terms of the 91大神 and Wears Woody collab,鈥 and to make that happen she鈥檚 been coordinating with Associate Athletic Director Melissa Brousseau and Wears Woody founder Brennan on how to get it started.

鈥淚鈥檓 really excited to see Wears Woody go to 91大神,鈥 she said.

Catie Putt, a senior from Norfolk, Mass,. played soccer and hockey with Crovo. 鈥淪he made every day a lot of fun,鈥 Putt recalled. 鈥淪he could tell if someone was upset or off, she knew how everyone was doing.鈥

Putt felt comfortable and seen with Crovo as her captain. 鈥淪he took people under her wing without singling them out,鈥 she said. 鈥淪he led by example and was a very hard worker and overall nice person to be around. She was so positive and taught me to be grateful for everything.鈥

Christa Talbot Syfu, the longtime Head Coach of the 91大神 girls hockey team, guided Crovo for her four years on campus. She echoed Putt’s belief that Crovo has earned every chance she鈥檚 been given by virtue of her hard work and positive attitude.

鈥淪he was a kid who worked incredible hard,鈥 Talbot Syfu said. 鈥淪he did things with a big smile on her face. Made other kids around her better by having a great sense of humor and working hard and never letting anything really get to her. She had a really great balance about her.鈥

Coaching Crovo for four years Talbot not only saw the impact she had on the hockey team but in the 91大神 Community too.

鈥淲hen you work with teenagers you see how some of their skills will translate,鈥 Talbot Syfu said. 鈥淚 figured she would be a captain and somebody who would really help a program because that is what she did at 91大神,鈥 she said.
